Today I want to show you some European countries and their capital cities.

OK – that wasn’t too difficult, right?

Now let’s put the countries and their capital cities in easy sentences.

We have a German proverb:

„Zwei Fliegen mit einer Klappe schlagen!“
There is a similar proverb in English: „To kill two birds with one stone.“ The meaning is: to succeed in achieving two things in a single action.

OK so let’s do this.

Berlin ist die Hauptstadt von Deutschland.
Berlin is the capital of Germany.

Wien ist die Hauptstadt von Österreich.
Vienna is the capital of Austria.

Madrid ist die Hauptstadt von Spanien.

Athen ist die Hauptstadt von Griechenland.
Athens is the capital of Greece.

Rom ist die Hauptstadt von Italien.
Rome is the capital of Italy.

Paris ist die Hauptstadt von Frankreich.

Try to answer the questions out loud. As you already know the question and answer technique is very powerful. With every repetition it will help you to save the new information (meaning, pronunciation, word order etc) more deeply in your long term memory.

3. After a few times don’t look at the answers anymore.

Das weiß doch* jedes Kind. (Every child knows this)

*doch:

We Germans use this word very often and most of the time it is just a filler word. That means you don’t really need it and that’s why I wouldn’t translate it into English.
